Small things that help

None of this needs a course fee. A tidy CV, a short letter, and a bit of Excel are enough to start.

CV

One page is enough. Use the builder. Lead with the kind of office work you want. Skills as a short list. Do not invent jobs. If experience is thin, say what you have actually done and that you learn quickly.

Cover letter

Half a page. Name the role. Say you want back-office work and you are happy to learn. Add one true example of being organised. Match one sentence to the advert. You do not need long words.

Interview

Read the advert twice. Prepare two examples of being reliable. Have one question: “What would the first month look like?” It is fine to say you have not worked in an office yet.

Excel, free

Microsoft’s Excel help is free. Learn sums, sorting, and freezing the top row. That is enough to sound useful on a temp booking.

LinkedIn

A simple profile is enough: your name, Eastbourne, “Looking for back-office admin or accounts work”, and the skills from your CV. You do not need a photo if you would rather not use one.

Paid “trainee” adverts

ITOL, IT Career Switch, and Newto sell courses. A job guarantee in the headline does not make it a job. An apprenticeship or a temp booking pays you. You should not pay them.
